RWANDA

Located just south of the Equator, the landlocked nation of Rwanda is one of the worlds smallest countries. All of Rwanda is at high elevation, with mountains in the west, savannah in the east, and numerous lakes throughout the country. Like Uganda, Rwanda offers the unique gorilla trekking safari experience in its Volcanos National Park. The country hosts some rare species of animals in addition to the sought after silverback mountain gorillas and unique birds and insects are beautifully abundant in the tropical forest of Nyungwe.

An integral part of Rwandan culture is music and dance, particularly drums and the highly choreographed ‘intore’ dance. Traditional arts and crafts are produced throughout the country, including ‘imigongo’; a unique cow dung art.

The capital of Kigali is safe and has a unique continental feel. Conveniently, it is located a relatively short distance from the Volcanos National Park so allows for travelers with a limited amount of time to reach gorilla treks fairly quickly and easily.
