A common email I receive from new clients generally remakes “I want to go to Africa.” But where?, I ask. It’s quite the open ended question! Despite over 50 individual countries existing on the continent, most are largely unknown to the general tourist taking their first trip. The level of knowledge held by a mainstream retail travel agent is also superficial, at best, so the initial planning stages can be difficult. Fortunately, there are specialised agents who have an intimate knowledge of the continent. I’ll put myself in that category!
So where to begin? More often than not, wildlife is the first point of attraction. This brings the focus to the east and south. You’ll hear multiple arguments that often lead people towards Kenya or South Africa. Migration in Kenya or Tanzania is absolutely incredible and if the sole purpose of your travel is to see game, it’s very appealing. Certain agents would price up a hugely expensive migration package and hope the client jumps on it. I try to extract a little more before committing to this.
When it comes to Africa, budget is important. If you want high end, they do high end! But you pay for the privilege. The continent also offers so much more than wildlife and this is often forgotten. Do you like fine dining? Wineries? Amazing mountain scenery? Beaches? History? By gathering this information, I find the south starts to become more appealing to first time visitors.
To make things a bit easier, we’ve put together a few packages that offer an unrivalled introduction to Africa. Ultimate South Africa Introduction is a great value package that offers visitors the chance to experience the natural beauty of Cape Town and its surrounds before experiencing an amazing private safari lodge. For those with a little more to spend, Ultimate Southern Africa takes luxury to the next level, with private aircraft transfers, helicopter tours, Victoria Falls and a journey encompassing the southern hotspots of South Africa and Zambia.
Make it unique!
Of course, we’re all different and enjoy different things. There’s nothing we enjoy more than putting together a package that is uniquely you, so please get in touch if you need some inspiration!
