Just the word “Ethiopia” produces thoughts of great contrast. From the country where some of the first human remains were ever found to the famine and starvation that shocked the world. Thoughts of a country that escaped colonialism however still remains in political struggle. Travel to Ethiopia is eye openning and unlike anywhere else on the continent. It offers an array of incredible landscapes, fascinating culture and rich history.

Most begin their journey in the hectic capital of Addis Ababa where you can experience traditional markets, visit the oldest human remains ever found (“Lucy”) and start your love affair with Ethiopian coffee. From there, visitors begin their travels north or south. Ethiopia boasts the lowest point on the African continent, the Danakil Depression and also mountain ranges that reach above ten thousand feet. In between, there are lush highlands and stirring deserts, vertiginous canyons and sweeping savannah, vast lakes and high plateaus. It’s also home to the source of the Blue Nile and 25% of Africa’s active volcanoes.

We are one of very few Australian agents who have extensive “on the ground” experience in Ethiopia. It’s a challenging country and offers a very different type of travel compared to Southern Africa.
